THIS IS THE CRUCHE FORM FOR POURING WATER AT DINNER. EACH REGION HAD ITS OWN DESIGN BUT THE CRUCHE OF LANGUEDOC, WITH ITS TWO HANDLES, ONE USED AS A SPOUT, WAS CONSIDERED THE MOST INNOVATIVE CRUCHE (CALLED ORJOL IN LANGUEDOC). AS THESE VESSELS WERE VERY HEAVY WHEN FILLED WITH WATER… AND THE WIFE WAS EXPECTED TO REFILL GLASSES… SHE WOULD DRAG THE ORJOL ACROSS THE TABLE AND POUR THE WATER FROM THE CRUCHE OFF THE SIDE OF THE TABLE. MUCH EASIER DOING IT THAT WAY. THE EDGE OF THE TABLE ALSO WORKED AS A SAFETY. THIS YELLOW GLAZE IS THICK AND BEYOND BEAUTIFUL. Please read the full description and view all photos carefully using zoom. All flaws may not be visible or specifically mentioned but they will give you the best idea as to its overall condition. THERE IS CRAZING OVER ENTIRE SURFACE. This advertising pitcher is quite rare. It was made in france. I could not find much information on it. It has beautiful curved lines/ art deco shape. THERE IS A CHIP ON THE EXTERIOR RIM. The chip is also visible from the interior of the rim. Please see photos i have added some with a view from each side of the chip. There are some manufacturing flaws, mainly a flaw in the ceramic and glaze on the top near the rim area above the spout. There is some wear to the lettering on one side. There are other signs of wear and age that may not be visible in the photos or mentioned. Including, scratches and light marks. It may need light cleaning. I think the bottom is marked 399/80 but it very difficult to tell. I try my best to describe all items accurately however there is always the possibility that i have made a mistake or missed something. If that is the case please contact me.
